throw to her repertoire.
“1 have played every sport, and
track and field is the hardest, most
frustrating sport,” Riojas said. “But
it is also the most rewarding.”
To practice her discus and
hammer throws, Riojas com
pletes throw after throw, meticu
lously working on her technique.
“Discus is a very technical
event,” Riojas said. “There are
so many variables you must
work on, and it takes lots of
patience and perserverence.”
After practice ends, Riojas
heads over to the Bright
Laboratory to ice down. She has
struggled with tendonitis
throughout her career and must
undergo vigorous stretching and
icing to prevent herself from get
ting sore. Twice a week, howev
er, massage therapists visit the
Bright Lab to help Jamie work
out the stiffness in her throwing
arm and upper body.
Riojas usually arrives home
around 5:30 p.m., and has a cou
ple of hours to relax and begin
her studies before heading back
to campus for meetings at 7:30
p.m.. On campus, Riojas partici
pates in tutoring and study
groups for her various classes. In
addition, every Wednesday night
she attends meetings as a mem
ber of the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes.
Riojas’ day usually ends
around 9:30 p.m. After being on
campus for almost the entire
day, she exhaustedly returns
home to finish up her home
work and other studies.
“I love everything I do,” Riojas
said. “It is all so crazy and so
busy, but it is definitely worth it.”

court will decide
Clarett case
NEW YORK (AP) - A federal
appeals court will hear the dispute
over whether Maurice Clarett can
enter the NFL draft less than a
week before it takes place.
The NFL tried to convince a
three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals that it
should block Claretfs entry by
staying the effect of a lower court
judge’s ruling he be allowed in the
April 24-25 draft, even though the
former Ohio State running back is
only two years out of high school.
The appeals panel instead
agreed to set oral arguments
for April 19 and suggested it
might immediately rule whether
Clarett can enter the draft.
