SPORTS IN BRIEF
Baseball travels
to Houston
Fresh off a series win on the
road at UCLA, the Texas A&M
baseball team will stay on the
road when it faces the University
of Houston Tuesday at 7 p.m. at
Cougar Field in Houston.
No. 12 A&M will start junior
pitcher Kyle Martlett on the
mound in his second start of
the season against the Cougars
(5-9), the team that knocked
the Aggies (14-2) out of the
NCAA tournament in 2003.
Houston will start freshman
pitcher Shea Hancock, who will
have his first start of the sea
son. In 10 innings of work this
year, Hancock has fanned eight
batters while allowing only
three hits and one earned run.
Houston has a losing record,
but has played twelve of its
games against nationally-
ranked opponents. The
Cougars are coming off a
weekend series at No. 1
Louisiana State University,
where they won one game.
A&M freshman third baseman
Austin Boggs is in the midst of a
14-game hitting streak.
Softball heads to
Louisiana
After postponing its double-
header against the University
of Texas-Arlington until
Tuesday due to rain, Texas
A&M and UTA softball have
decided to cancel both games
due to logistical reasons.
Instead, A&M (11-9) will
travel to Lake Charles, La., to
face McNeese State (10-16)
Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a double-
header at Cowgirl Diamond.
A&M has had a week off due
to the rain-outs against UTA,
and is currently on a two-game
losing streak.
Big 12

said she believes the Aggies can
come together to overcome seem
ingly insunnountable odds, much
the way the 1980 U.S. Olympic
hockey team did to beat the
Soviet Union.
“Before the Kansas game,
Coach Blair took us out to see the
movie ‘Miracle,”' Williams said.
“I think it really let our team know
that you don’t have to be the best
team, but if you play together then
things will come together and
happen for you.”
Williams is the first A&M
basketball player to be named
First Team All-Big 12.
“I can’t come back next year,
so we are going to get it all done
now,” Williams said.
