Tickets to the game are free, and Slovacek sausage-on-a-stick will be available for only 50 cents. Men Continued from page 7 1994. A loss to either A&M or Baylor in their final two games would certainly spell doom for Oklahoma’s tourna ment dreams. Oklahoma has a good chance though, according to Texas senior guard Brandon Mouton. “1 talked to a couple of them after (Texas’ 68-63 win on Feb. 21), and just told them to win games and good luck,” Mouton said. “They are definitely capa ble of winning the games to put them into the tournament.” The bubble might be an undesirable and unfamiliar place for Oklahoma. The Aggies, however, are still waiting for their chance at life on near the top. “The kids are trying,” Watkins said. “1 may get upset; but I look into their face, and I know they're try ing. If the group were to quit on you or lay down then that would be very disappointing. This group hasn't done that. They’ve come out every game knowing the situation is what it is and try to win a ball game. We just can’t put 40 minutes together.” Wednesday, March 3, 2004 Thompson to leave A&M COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M linebacker Ta Ta Thompson, who started one game last sea son as a true freshman, has with drawn from school for personal reasons, coach Dennis Franchione said Tuesday. “Ta Ta is a fine young man who did everything we asked of him,’’ Franchione said. “It’s unfortunate that he feels he needs to give up his opportunities at Texas A&M to deal with some things going on in his life.’’ Thompson, from Garland, had 20 solo tackles and 10 assists, two tackles for losses and one quarterback sack. Franchione said linebacker Lamar Mitchell, defensive line man Tate Pittman- and wide receiver Anthony Wright also left school for personal reasons. Offensive linemen Brandon Flanagan and Quinten Coleman and linebacker Kelvin Flood were academic casualties. Softball Continued from page 7 who retired the last nine Bobcat batters in a row, including three strikeouts. The A&M bats went silent in those three innings though, collecting only three sin gles in 12 at-bats. Evans said six runs should have put the Aggies in the win column, but mistakes on the field cost A&M the game. “Besides Christina Smith, we struggled on the mound,” Evans said. “They took full advantage of that and never quit.” The Aggies travel to Arlington Wednesday to face the University of Texas-Arlington in a double header slated for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. SPORTS IN BRIEF Rangers sign three pitchers SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - The Texas Rangers signed three of their potential start ing pitchers to one-year con tracts Tuesday. Pitchers Joaquin Benoit, Colby Lewis and Ricardo Rodriguez are among a group of at least seven pitch ers in contention for three remaining spots in the rota tion behind Kenny Rogers and Chan Ho Park. The team also signed infielder Jason Bourgeois to a one-year contract. The only players on the 40- man roster still unsigned were shortstop Michael Young and likely starting center fielder Laynce Nix. Bryant attorneys may question alleged victim EAGLE, Colo. (AP) - The judge in Kobe Bryant's sexual assault case has reconsid ered whether he’ll allow defense attorneys to ask the alleged victim detailed ques tions about her sexual past. The woman had been scheduled to testify Tuesday. Late Monday, judge Terry Ruckriegle postponed that appearance until a March 24- 25 hearing so he could reconsider the prosecution’s request that he limit the questions defense attorneys could ask. Ruckriegle initially ruled Monday that prosecutors made that request too late. He agreed to review his rul ing after a closed-door meet ing with attorneys, state courts spokeswoman Karen Salaz said. Without the woman’s testi mony, Tuesday's hearing was expected to focus on whether Bryant was illegally questioned by investigators on July 1 after the 19-year-old accused him of raping her at a Vail-area resort. Bryant, 25, has said the two had consensual sex. Bryant’s attorneys said he has a right to confront his accuser. Cincinnati Reds owner dies CINCINNATI (AP) - Marge Schott, the tough-talking, chain-smoking owner of the Cincinnati Reds who won a World Series and was repeat edly suspended for offensive remarks, died Tuesday. She was 75. Schott was hospitalized about three weeks ago for breathing difficulties and repeatedly needed treatment for lung problems in recent years. Christ Hospital spokes woman Dona Buckler did not release a cause of death. Schott kept a low profile after she sold controlling inter est in the club in October 1999. She remained a limited partner in the team’s owner ship group, but had no say in the team’s operations. She loved to mingle with fans and gave generously to charitable causes, but got in trouble because she couldn’t watch her words. She report edly used racial slurs to describe her players and repeatedly praised Hitler despite admonitions to keep quiet. The Reds plan to honor Schott in some fashion on opening day.
