NEWS IN BRIEF
Honda recalls 440,000
Civic and Insight cars
WASHINGTON (AP) — Honda Motor Co. is
recalling 440,000 Civic and Insight cars
because their low-beam headlights can fail with-
outwarning, the company said Tuesday.
No injuries have resulted from the defect,
Honda spokesman Andy Boyd said. The recall
involves 2001-2002 model year Civics and
2000-2002 model year Insights.
According to the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, which also announced
the recall, the headlights’ wire harness can
overheat and cause the low-beam headlights to
fail. Boyd said drivers could still use their high-
beam headlights in all cases.
Honda will begin notifying owners this month
about the recall. Dealers will perform free
repairs on the vehicles whether or not they
show any heat damage.

THE BIG
PICTURE.
Jesus of Nazareth died a horrible death. There’s no doubt about it. But
why? Why did God’s Son allow himself to be captured, and tortured, and
executed as a criminal?
Yes, he said things about himself that violently upset people. They heard
his statements like, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. I am the light of the
world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of
life." And their reaction was predictable: “You a mere man, are making yourself
out to be God!”
Yes, he performed miracles that were astonishing. Healing the blind. Even
raising the dead. Once he brought someone's son back to life while they were
carrying him in a casket down the street! Again, their reaction was not surprising:
“If we let him go on thus, the whole world will be following him.” Indeed.
But couldn’t Jesus have prevented his punishment and death? Absolutely.
Jesus was never fully at the mercy of man. This was God, in human form. So
why did he allow himself to be crucified?
He told us why: ‘‘No greater love has any man than this, that a-man would
lay down his life for his friends. ” He knew that we were headed for death. We
would receive God’s full punishment for our sin. We were under God's judgment
and condemnation. This is why Jesus laid down his life...to take our place. To
pay for our sin. So that we wouldn't die eternally separated from him because
of our sin...he took our punishment.
'‘God demonstrates his own love for us, that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us."
Jesus voluntarily went through this horror for a very strong reason. He
wants us to know him. To find out how to begin a relationship with God, please
