The Passion of The Christ
Starring: James Caviezel, Maia Morgenstern, Monica Bellucci,
and Mattia Sbragia

Jesus’ cries of pain, agony and forgiveness
may still ring in the audience’s ears long after
“The Passion of The Christ” is over. Never
before has there been a movie so unrelentingly
brutal and violent. “Saving Private Ryan” is
nothing compared to this. “The Passion of The
Christ” is one of the most powerful movies one
will see.
“The Passion” tells the story of the final hours
of Jesus (played amazingly well by James
Caviezel) as he is beaten, tortured and brutalized
by Jewish and Roman forces. From his capture in
the garden by Jewish guards, he is taken to the
temple where he is condemned and taken before
the Roman Governor Pontius Pilate (Shopov).
There he is tortured, sentenced and sent to be
crucified. Jesus’ walk to the hill is painful to watch
as he struggles to carry his cross, and his wounds
fester and bleed before the audience’s eyes. Upon
reaching the hilltop, Jesus is nailed to the cross in
one of the most gut-wrenching scenes of the
movie. At this point, all the viewer wants is for it
to stop, for Jesus' suffering to end and for him to
be at peace, which finally comes after an agoniz
ing call to God.
Everything about “The Passion” is of superb
quality. Caviezel, Morgenstern, Shopov and
Sbragia give amazing performances that capture
the spirit of the time and what was happening
around them. The pacing of the movie is excellent.
“The Passion” is clone in what feels like 30 min
utes even though two hours pass.
Visually, the movie is fantastic; every scene is
beautifully crafted, and every shot just hammers in
what is happening to Christ. The score is emotion
ally gripping, making what happens on the screen
even more unbearable to watch. All of these ele
ments make this a movie that stands head and
shoulders above anything that has been done about
the life and death of Jesus before.
Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of The Christ” isan
amazing and graphic portrayal of the final hours
of Jesus' life. Because “The Passion” featuresi
compelling story, amazing acting and a stunnin®
use of audio and visuals, it is a movie that even
one should see. regardless of faith or beliefs.

‘Judas’ role poses challenge
for actor Jonathon Schaech
RADNOR, Pa. (AP) - The task given to Johnathon
Schaech wasn’t the easiest; Present a well-balanced
portrayal of one of the most demonized figures in
religion.
Although Schaech said his lead role in the upcom
ing ABC biopic “Judas” has been a challenge, it has
also taught him a thing or two.
“A lot of religious individuals won’t accept him as
anything more than just a betrayer of Christ,” Schaech
told TV Guide. “When you give him a heart and say
he’s misunderstood, they don’t want to hear that.”
The television movie, scheduled to air March 8, tells
the story of betrayal from Judas' point of view.
“We were trying to construct a psychological profile
so you could see why he was doing what he was
doing,” said the Rev. Frank Desiderio, a Catholic
priest who was the film’s executive producer. “I hope
it reveals Judas' humanity.”
The movie should also benefit from being televised
shortly after the release of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion
of the Christ’’ in theaters.
“They’re riding its coattails,” Schaech said.
