Full of Hot Air (and that’s a good thing) Granted, you normally wouldn’t want to spend your Valentine’s evening with a guy who’s full of hot air unless he’s whispering sweet nothings in your ear. While OPAS JR can’t promise that, we can promise that Fred Garbo will give you shivers anyway when he teams with ballerina Daielma Santos to create a dazzling, colorful world of inflatable inventions that will boggle your mind. It’s a stage spectacle not to be missed. And with $7.50 tickets, you can even afford to bring a date. FRED GARBO INFLATABLE THEATER CO. This embodies all ol what College Station is — relaxed carefree and humble. Will Davis, a senior economics major and Lauren Napier, a senior communications and heallli major add a touch of Texas style to their wardrobes. Davis pairs his Polo shirt with a classic pair of jeans while Napier spruces her outfit up with a leather jacket from Banana Republic. On Tap Continued from page 3 patrons cannot wear flip-flops, and men must have a collared shirt and leave their hats at home. “College Station is relatively informal and relaxed compared to other college towns,” Hearn said. “Some places in Austin have a strict dress code, and that can just be exhausting, especially for guys who lack a fashion sense. Most of them do not want to have to think about putting together an outfit.” Tuggle said he actually enjoys dressing up, and he buys every thing he wears around town from the Polo section of Dillard’s. For others, the clothes are not as important as the attitude you wear at the bars. Jim daggers, a senior petroleum engineering major, said that it does not matter what you wear just as long as you have the front tuck. “The front tuck definitely adds some style,” daggers said. “It had to have originated with the frat daddies who tuck the frontof their shirts into their pants but leave the rest out. It’s not what you wear, but how you wear it.” Even though some of the styles from the larger cities make it to College Station, many of the more outlandish styles will most like ly always stay in Austin. “I would like to see more of styles that challenge what people normally wear, like polka dots with stripes, fun things that no one else would think of to wear can work well,” Allison said. “More bright colors would be nice, too. And, when a new trend becomes contagious, put your own twist on it.” Couture Continued from page 3 Wranglers and enormous belt buckles. So, my philosophy is, when frequenting a bar with a Texas flavor, embrace the culture and find the biggest belt buckle you can. Northgate has some of the most popular locations in town and, on a Saturday night, the fashion-conscious people-watcher will see bar hoppers in everything from a maroon T-shirt and jeans to the wannabe hipsters in all black and excess hair gel waiting by the completely unnecessary rope outside The Library. Truthfully, all fashion rules are thrown out the window at Northgate as there seems to be a policy of anything goes.” Carney’s and its neighbor, the Blarney Stone, are home to A&M’s Greek crowd. Fraternity Frank and Sorority Sue love these Irish pubs, and on a Thursday night, both places are packed. As for the attire, girls are in designer jeans and colorful tops that coordinate well with their pointy heels and chandelier earrings. The Carney’s boys love an old backwards hat and could not live without a North Face fleece and their button-ups. Preps rule these joints where the beer never stops flowing. The Tap has become quite popular recently, and requires a little more sassy wardrobe. You might need to get a fake tan first because many of the regulars, even the men, are especially bronzed and starched. The heels get higher at the Tap, and the men get tanner. It’s a fact. Love is in the air this weekend; maybe not in your room exact ly, but it is there in the world just waiting to find you. Open up your closet and get out there!
