SPORTS IN BRIEF
Williams breaks
record as Aggies
fall to Oklahoma
There is a new Aggie in the
record books this week after
senior guard Toccara Williams
became the Big 12 all-time
steals leader with 419.
Williams broke the record in
the Aggies' 56-46 loss to No. 24
Oklahoma (14-6, 4-5 Big 12)
Saturday in Norman, Okla.
Senior guard Maria Villarroel
led the Sooners with 19 points
and eight rebounds.
Sophomore forward Tamea
Scales contributed another dou
ble-double for the Aggies with 17
points and 12 rebounds.
The Aggies (8-13, 1-9) got off to
a bad start with five turnovers on
their first seven possessions
putting the Sooners up early 16-2.
The lead was cut to four late in
the game but the Sooners were
able to hold off the Aggies on the
strength of their 35 percent
shooting from the floor. The
Aggies only shot 30 percent.
Aggie tennis gets
two wins at Team
Indoor Nationals
The Texas A&M men’s tennis
team had an up and down week
end at the USTA/ITA National
Team Indoor Championships in
Seattle, Wash.
The Aggies started the tourna
ment by losing to No. 8 Duke
University for the second time in
less than a week.
The Aggies had beaten Duke
four consecutive times leading up
to this season, but just can’t seem
to solve the Blue Devils this year.
A&M rebounded by not losing a
single match for the rest of the
tournament. The Aggies began
the streak with a 4-0 win over No.
48 Tulsa and then continued it in
the consolation match against
No. 12 University of California.
A&M coach Tim Cass was
pleased with his team’s perfor
mance over the Golden Bears.
"It was a good win for us, 1 '
Cass said. "They're a very good
team, and I was pleased with
our effort. I thought it turned into
being one of the more complete
efforts I've seen this season."
The Aggies’ will next host Lamar

“To dive and win against a
team like Texas, especially Texas,
is always great,’* Morgan said.
Aggie junior Alfredo Jacobo’s
eight consecutive wins in the
breaststroke event was ended by
Longhorn senior Brendan
Hansen. With the win. Hansen
finished his collegiate career
without a loss in the breaststroke.
Hansen said his performance
came partly from the rivalry
between the two universities.
"Whenever you get these two
teams together for any sport, both
teams are going to tight for the
pride of their schtxil.'' Hansen said.
“It always sets the stage for some
great competition and finishes.”

Lady Aggies upset
DSC, get fourth in
tournament
Taking advantage of the nation
al stage at the prestigious National
Team Indoors, the No. 25 Texas
A&M women’s tennis team upset
No. 5 Southern California in the
first round, 4-3, in Madison, Wis.
USC is the highest ranked team
A&M has ever beaten.
After losing the doubles point to
the Trojans, the Aggies dominat
ed the singles point by winning
four of six matches, taking the
overall match, 4-3.
The Aggies lost in the second
round, 5-2, to No. 3 California, the
team that eliminated A&M from
last year's NCAA Tournament.
A&M fell to No. 8 Northwestern
6-lin the third-place match of the
tournament as they lost three sin
gles matches that went right
down to the wire.
The Aggies return home to face
Rice University this Saturday at
1:30 at the George P. Mitchell
Tennis Center.
Softball takes two
from Stephen F.
Austin
The No. 17 Texas A&M soft-
ball team remained perfect on
Sunday by sweeping a double-
header from Stephen F. Austin
at the Coy Simms Softball
Complex in Nacogdoches, win
ning 2-0 and 5-0, respectively.
A&M (3-0) blanked the
Ladyjacks (0-5) twice to pick up
their first two shutouts of the sea
son. After holding SFA to no runs
on only four hits in the first game,
the A&M defense pinned the
Ladyjacks with zero runs on two
hits in the nightcap.
The Aggies were led in the sec
ond game by a three-run home-
run off the bat of A&M junior
infielder Adrian Gregory.
The Aggies will return home to
take on the University of
Houston (3-1) in a doubleheader
this Wednesday at the Aggie
Softball Complex. First pitch is
set for 3 p.m.
Kubik said he was thankful to
return to Austin with a win.
“This is the deepest A&M
team we have ever faced,”
Kubik said. “This was a real
important gauge to see where we
are and if we’re ready for con
ference finals yet.”
Even though the loss wasn’t
the outcome the Aggies had
hoped for, they were still
pleased to see all the fans in
attendance. For most of the
swimmers, it was the largest
crowd they had ever performed
in front of. Many said the fans
motivated them to swim faster.
Matt Rose said even though
the team lost, hopefully they
caught some attention.
“People around here might
begin to realize that we’re per
haps the best team on campus
right now,” Rose said.
