Freshman pitcher Doug Frame, a
general studies major, said most
players concentrate on eating right
during the offseason.
"During the offseason, my diet
consists of primarily steaks and sal
ads,” he said. “I try to stay away from
starches, especially bread.”
While many students picture the
final game of a season as a time for
athletes to relax until spring training,
that’s not the case. The season for
health and recreation goes year-
round, and training — for any athlete
who wants to be on top of his game
— never ends. ■

look. The area’s larger supermarkets have
a separate section for vegetarian and
organic food. Even small stores carry soy
milk and other nondairy products.
Laura Jones, a senior health major
and a vegetarian, said eating out while
eating healthy is easier than most people
think.
"Many restaurants offer vegetarian
menus,” Jones said. "On the Border is
really good at providing vegetarian
options. I told them I was one and instead
of the beans they made me fried potatoes
and grilled veggies.”
Students can easily eat better if they
take the time to make nutritious deci

“Nutritious eating is the responsibility
of one’s self,” Zawieja said. “No one can
make you eat healthy.” ■

Gold's Graham said students looking
to stay in shape should remember that a
complete fitness program has four parts:
proper food intake, cardiovascular fit
ness, supplementation and resistance
training.
"Supplementation is simply filing
nutritional gaps in the daily diet.” he
said. "It's not GNC like some people
think. But if you can't eat breakfast,
have a shake or a bar.” ■
