high on the Christian music charts. TheD(1

■'llluminate“ is no different.
The David Crowder Band represents the
creative aspects of Christian music. In a cate
gory where much experimentation in music is
stifled, the David Crowder Band throws off
this stigma and has created something new
with every album it has made. With an inter
esting blend of rock, folk and surprising tech
no-like elements, its new album "Illuminate”
comes off as different, but incredibly good.
With the traditional rock instrumentation of
drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitars,
DCB might be boxed up. but with violinist DJ
Hogan a new dimension is added to the music.
The pieces of this band fuse together well, but
the apex of this band is, not surprisingly, David
Crowder. With an incredible voice and
unmatched acoustic guitar playing. Crowder
makes “Illuminate” a great CD.
Every song on this album boils over with
passion and clarity. The message is simple.
Every song is a simple expression of adoration.
“Sparks Fly," the opening track, is 18 sec
onds long and gives a glimpse of what is to
come, leaving the listener wanting more. Then
"Revolutionary Love" kicks in. With a driving
beat, the band holds back the reigns until the
climatic explosion. “All Creatures #2" is an old
hymn that was spiced up from DCB’s previous
album. "Are You Listening.” It has been
reworked again to become a great version of
the song. The way the band is able to take old
songs and remix them shows its creative musi
cal ability. These are three songs out of 16. Do
yourself a favor and listen to all 16. You will
not be disappointed.
The David Crowder Band is a masters of
translating live music energy onto a CD, which
is not an easy feat. Many bands struggle trying
to get their live performance adrenaline onto
analog, but DCB pulls it off nicely again.
DCB worked with producers Charlie
Peacock (dcTalk, Switchfoot) and Mitch
Watkins (Joe Ely. Abra Moore), as well as
Zach Lind (Jimmy Eat World). The David
Crowder Band has been flying low on the radar
for a long time. With its third CD, it has hit it
