CS76«:| appear to have stepped up their game in conference play this year,
allowing more than 13 points only once in five Big 12 meetings.
jA&M will likely use McNeal’s athletic ability, as they did in 2002,
|to exploit any potential points of weakness in the tough OU front.
“We did not do a very good job a year ago,” Stoops said.
“(McNeal) made a lot of big plays that beat us — throwing the foot
ball primarily — but also did some running to keep some drives
going. It will be a big challenge for us again this year to be in bet
ter position, to take away the deep passes and to contain him when
he pulls the ball down.”
Saturday’s game, set to take place at Oklahoma Memorial
Stadium, is scheduled for an 11 a.m. kickoff. The game will be tel
evised on ABC.

out of position as their comfort
zone can allow.
“Suffering those injuries has
been a significant blow,” Mahi
said. “We’ve had to put players
out of position all season long.
We’ve had players who’ve never
played middle step up at that
position. We moved our right
side to the middle and our sec
ond left side to the right.”
With a diverse group of upper
1 lower classman, Mahi was
poised to make a run at the Big
12 title this year, or at least
remain in the upper echelon of
the Big 12 South.
Despite the injuries, OU (11-
14,3-10 Big 12) has remained
|optimistjc. The No. 21 Aggies
-6,9-4) will have their hands
and Corbelli is trying to
elude a trend that is plaguing
ranked teams: Mental lapses
against lesser opponents.
“I think our players know the
standards we have set for this
program,” Corbelli said. “We
place a huge emphasis on being
ready to perform. It is happening
in every conference where a
high amount of ranked teams are
falling to lesser ranked oppo
nents because they lose their
focus.”
Seeing his team rally around
one another after an emotionally
trying season has been a moral
victory for Mahi and his
Sooners. In fact, going through
such highs and lows, Mahi said
his squad has come to define
what it means to be a team.
“We’ve ridden the emotional
roller coaster this year,” Mahi
said. “We’ve had to fight
through a lot and get people
adjusted. It has been a signifi
cant challenge for us, and my
players have responded well. We
are still a capable team, though.”
A&M swept OU on the road
on Oct. 17. Saturday’s match is
set for 7 p.m.

Archers hosting
Aggie Invitational
The Texas A&M archery team
opens its season with the Aggie
Invitational today and Saturday.
This season, A&M will be
looking for its ninth-straight
national championship under
the tutelage of coach Kathy
Eissinger. She has also led
A&M to 10 national titles.
“Anything short of a national
title will be a disappointment,”
Eissinger said. “We will receive
some competition this year
mostly from James Madison
University, but no one in this
region really has a team that
poses any threat.”
The Aggies will compete in
this weekend’s event as well as
the Longhorn Invitational later
this month, but the competitive
season starts in the spring.
“It’s a time to check and see
where we stand to see if we
need to make any adjustments
for the spring,” Eissinger said.
