Hunt said Collin’s poignant
lyrics are present in certain Eve
6 songs.
“I am a big fan of all of Eve
6’s material, but two songs,
‘Nightmare’ and ‘Rescue’ really
stick out in my mind. Their lyrics
are very captivating,” he said.
\ “It has been phenomenal with
how things are going live. People
seem to know all the new songs,”
said drummer Tony Fagenson.
“We try to mix it up with old
songs, but we get requests for
every song on the new record. We
have several set lists that, depend
ing on the length of a show, we try
to play as much as possible.”
Since its first self-titled
release, Eve 6 has been a relent
less force in rock music. The star
dom that came at a young age
meant almost non-stop touring,
which resulted in the members of
Eve 6 growing up on the road. As
they have matured over the years,
their music has evolved into a
new sound with a new edge.
“In terms of making Tfs All In
Your Head,’ we took a lot longer
(to record) and found ourselves,”
said lead singer Max Collins. “We
were a little lost after a lengthy
tour and didn’t know what we
were or wanted to be. It took a lit
tle time to grow up as people. We
decided to write some honest
songs and not just pigeonhole
some music.”
Fagenson said the band used
experimentation and themes
from childhood to reconstruct its
latest sound.
“After the songs started to
come we got more direction and
made a rawer record,” Fagenson
said. “We want the songs to speak
for themselves. At the same time,
it’s a little more of an innocent
record because we remembered
why we started this band and it
was a return to youth. We let all
inhibitions down.”
Collins said the album lyrics
were inspired by strange events.
Personal experiences of the band
are interwoven into every song.
Collins said the song “Arch Drive
Goodbye” is layered with his per
sonal accounts.
“When I lived at the Archview
apartments, a guy on the FBI’s
most wanted list got shot, a girl
got murdered two doors down
from me and my landlord sleep
walked to 7-11 and paid for a
Slurpee with pennies,” he said.
“It’s All in your Head” is also
littered with pictures of childhood
nostalgia and remembrances of
the past.
“We have really had a desire
to return to innocence, because
when you start to see the weight
of the world it’s easy to want to
go back to childhood,”
Fagenson said.
Although the members of Eve
6 have years of experience under
their belts and have played
countless shows across the
globe, Fagenson said the band
does not always feel the security
of success. Crowds are demand
ing, and things do not always go
as planned.
“We get nervous a lot of
nights,” Fagenson said. “When I
was taking music classes the pro
fessors said that when you stop
getting nervous before perform
ances, you have stopped playing
for the right reason. We get nerv
ous and there are lots of disasters
ranging from technical to a unre
sponsive crowd.”
Constant growth as musi
cians usually comes from listen
ing to other musicians and
exploring new musical avenues.
The members of Eve 6 are no
different. Their listening varies
from brand new groups to the
founders of rock.
“In my CD player right now
are the Kings of Leon,”
Fagenson said. “I have been lis
tening to a lot of Hank Williams
and Johnny Cash. I’ve been try
ing to get back to the amazing
song craftsmen of our past. I
really like this new band S.T.U.N
that wear their L.A. rock on their
sleeve with their balls out. I also
really love the LeAnn Rimes
song, ‘Life Goes On.’”
Having been through Texas
multiple times, Fagenson said he
has found a love for the state.
“We’ve come through Texas
many times — maybe 10. We’ve
been all over,” he said. “The
warm Texas mind-set is apparent
everywhere and we love it.”
Eve 6 will perform this
Saturday and Sunday in Houston
at the Verizon Wireless Theatre at
7 p.m. Both perfonnances feature
special guest Good Charlotte.
