Brand New has transformed. Its first release “Your Favorite
Weapon” was good, but nothing incredibly special. It was your
usual “slightly-harder-than-pop” punk and was embraced by many.
That was only the starting point. Brand New’s second effort, “D6ja
Entendu,” shows from the very first notes that Brand New has
matured as songwriters.
The catchy title, french for “already heard” has a lot of thought
behind it, as do all the songs on this album. Many of the songs
speak of the struggles of constantly traveling from club to club
across the world like “I read more road maps than books” and the
pain of failing relationships as seen in the lyrics, “Every line is about
who I don’t want to write about anymore.” It is easy to see that
Brand New is straying away from the songs about girls, fun and
summer and havs starting writing about the realities of life.
Beautifully crafted music and lyrics come back to surprise you over
and over. One of the few bands that tells you the true “behind the
music” story.
The only bad thing about this album is that Brand New has set the
bar high for itself. It will be difficult to top “Dej& Entendu,” but, as
seen in this album, Brand New has a way
of stepping up to the plate.

Drummer Mike Marsh really gets a chance to shine on tfi

stands out multiple times as his drumming makes Dashboai

There are some great songs on this CD. A few of the »
