One holiday comes to most students’ minds with this statistic: the Fourth of July. This Fourth of July, there will be many celebrations going on in the Bryan-College Station area. On Friday evening, the “I Love America” celebration will take place at George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The event usually draws 11,000 to 15,000 people. The celebration has been held for 43 years, but only in the last four has taken place at the muse um. Brian Blake, public relations specialist for the Bush Library, considers the change a good one. “It (the museum) was seen as a natural patriotic backdrop,” Blake said. “And it’s an incredi ble gift to the community.” Games for children, along with live entertainment, will begin at 6 p.m. The live enter tainment will feature local bands and the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra’s concert will include patriotic music and starts at 8:30 p.m. The night will climax with a fireworks spectacular and the symphony’s performance of “1812 Overture.” Those attending the festivi ties can also enjoy the Bush Library, which will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m with free admission. So, those planning to attend can bring out their lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the fes tivities. In addition to these city- sponsored celebrations, students will be celebrating the fourth their own way. Some students have plans to get in water and cool off from the Texas heat. “I’m going to float the Guadalupe,” said Jaime Munoz, / a jun- o r / major. Megan Adcock, a sophomore accounting major, plans to do the same. “Hopefully I can make it to San Marcos to float the river with some friends,” she said. If some students’ plans don’t include the river, they often include the beach, which “I plan to stay at landscape architecture dry and take in some' major, has plans to go to Austin to see a Pat Green concert. According to www.tworiver- canyon.com, the concert will take place in Spicewood, Texas, at Two River Canyon, and includes Willie Nelson, Toby Keith and Merle Haggard among many others.
