ODESSA, Texas (AP) —
Crews on Wednesday continued
clearing debris in Odessa and
Ector County after a severe
storm swept through the area the
previous night.
Meanwhile, farmers in several
counties in the South Plains and
the Panhandle were surveying
damage to their crops from hail.
In Odessa, about 120 power
poles that were either snapped in
half or blown down by gale-
force winds have been replaced.
Winds during the storm reached
about 70 mph.
No injuries
were reported,

The Odessa American sus

the roofs of two buildings at an
apartment complex were blown
off. Numerous trees were blown
down by the straight-line winds.
At the height of the stonn,
about 10,000 Odessa residents
were without power, Childers
said. By Wednesday afternoon,
that number had dropped to
about 4,000, he said.
The storms Tuesday night in
Deaf Smith County in the
Panhandle produced golf ball
sized hail and added to crop
damage from stonns the two pre
vious nights. About 5,000 acres
of cotton have been damaged in
the storms, said Dennis Newton,
the county’s agriculture agent.
“(The storms) have been pret

only good thing about it is we

for a missing swimmer and fish

searches in the Gulf of Mexico
