At least five people have been arrested for allegedly stealing debris. NASA employee Michael Pankiewicz, 44, of Port Orange, Fla. was arrested late Wednesday and charged with embezzling government property, transporting stolen government property and making a false statement to federal law enforcement inves tigators, said Carolyn Adams, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Orlando. Pankiewicz, who is on paid leave from NASA, was released Thursday on $25,000 bond. Pankiewicz was one of many Kennedy Space Center workers sent to Texas in the early days of the shuttle disas ter to help with the collection of debris.
