AGGIELIFE 5 THE BATTALION Wednesday, January 22, 2003 UEB UATCH1 www.finaid.org Face it, college is expensive. Every semester, most students make the trip to Financial Aid Services to seek help with the large bill that appears right after registration. FinAid.org brings Financial Aid Services to the students. Questions regarding grants, loans, schol arships and military aid are answered in one place. Each type of aid is given its own section on the site where everything is explained entirely. In addition to demystifying the financial aid process, it includes links to other sites on the Web that deal with college admissions. Users can browse the site from the standpoint of a student, parent or educator. It allows educators to get to the more detailed information, while directing students to a simple checklist of steps that must be followed when applying for aid. If users have questions that the Web site can't answer, they can send e-mails to a professional adviser who responds from the Web site. However, the Web site reccommends students call its toll free number or ask their own finan cial aid advisers for help. High school and college students would be well-advised to visit FinAid. It is an invaluable site to anyone with even the smallest FinAid question. kk k Ik —Denise Schoppe www.anythink.org any think.Org newscast is the stop for anyone who wants to know about the biggest daily news happenings on the Internet, but doesn’t want to spend too much time searching. any think.Org updates its news stories sev eral times a day from every news source on the Web. The singer was taken from the county jail to Grady Memorial Hospital around 3 a.m., DeKalb County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Mikki Jones said. She declined to provide details, saying inmates' medical information is confidential. Brown entered the DeKalb jail Friday after pleading guilty to a 1996 drunken driving charge. He was sentenced to eight days, but Jones said Brown is eligible for release Wednesday under a "'good time'" policy that reduces sentences by 25 percent for good behavior. If Brown is still in the hospi tal Wednesday, he could be released from custody without returning to the jail, she said. Anastacia reveals cancer diagnosis LOS ANGELES (AP) - Pop singer Anastacia revealed Tuesday that she's been diag nosed with breast cancer. The cancer was discovered last week during a routine checkup, the 29-year-old said in a statement. "My doctor was insistent that 1 have a mammogram even though it was not required. He saved my life!" she said. "I appreciate all who are concerned, but please don't worry. Either way, I have no intention of letting this news get me down. I'm a fighter by nature and nothing will ever change that." Publicist Paul Freundlich said Anastacia is in dance rehearsals in New York and plans to finish filming a video for her latest single, "Love Is a Crime,'" featured on the soundtrack of the film "Chicago." DMC optimistic about investigation NEW YORK (AP) - Although no arrests have been made nearly three months after the killing of Jam Master Jay, DMC of the rap group Run-DMC said he's glad police haven't given up on the investigation. The group's disc jockey, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was shot Oct. 30 in his Queens recording studio. He would have turned 38 Tuesday. DMC, whose real name is Darryl McDaniels, was opti mistic that the killer would be caught. "You know a lot of people think that cops are the enemy and they really don't care. But the police that are working on Jay's death are doing an excellent job," DMC said in an interview with MTV News, air ing Tuesday. "You got hope that if the cops don't catch them, the streets will." Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Tuesday he had nothing new to report on the case. DMC and Joseph "Run" Simmons have retired from performing since Jay's death. "When you see Run-DMC and Jam Master Jay it was something that was original, it was something unique, it was something special," he said. "Out of respect to Jay, we looked at it like, all right, he served his purpose, he served his purpose and his job was done."
