Lott apologized Wednesday, saying his words were “terri ble” and “insensitive.” Bush was animated as he condemned Lott’s original remarks. Audience members, many of them minorities who work in religious groups and charities in inner-city communi ties across the mid-Atlantic, repeatedly cheered approval of Bush’s words. “Uh-huh ... The Texas Department of Health has reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that there is “widespread influenza activity in the state.” Department spokesman Doug McBride said it’s possible that the Hong Kong strain of influenza type B, which has not been detected in the United States since 1991, is responsible for the increase in sick students. “There seem to be more cases in kids than normal,’ McBride said. “There’s not the natural immunity that comes over time from being exposed to that particular strain.” McBride said state health officials are recommending a flu shot for people who haven’t gotten one, noting that the peak of flu season in Texas is typi cally January and February. This year’s flu vaccine pro tects against the Hong Kong, Moscow and New Caledonia strains of the influenza virus, type B. ^ International Students and families are invited to a traditional Christmas Eve Dinner TV December 24, 5:30 p.m. Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church 1007 KrenekTap Road, College Station For ride or more information: 693-45 14 We /Ire Brake Se Friday, December 13, 2002 America 9 s #Y rWce Company: Otv Sfislflll ICARKEEPER BRAKES* 1 YEAR/12,000 MILE WARRANTY I I I CL> *< \ u~] A 2818 9 99 Fronl (fix or reor shoes ■ Installation extra OR I (yovrd%a}<») J LIFETIME VSD BRAKES ■ $OA99 ' Wcny ten, %hl htxb csd wns. rrcy be it&tiontiBl «:hi tod far cddlwwl ix*b o?*J leiof.
