Golf team to finish season
with tourney in California
By David Morrison
the battalion
After a rocky start to its fall
schedule, the Texas A&M
men’s golf team showed up
two weeks ago with a second
place finish in the Adams Cup
in Newport, R.l.
The results marked the
Aggies’ best finish in three years.
A&M was led by junior
Stephen Reed who shot three
over par, finishing sixth overall.
The Aggies are excited about
their impressive play and hope
it is a sign of things to come.
"I am really thrilled for our
guys because they’ve worked
so hard. They are doing the
right things and starting to
make some progress,” said head
coach J.T. Higgins.
The Aggies saw their work
pay-oft and will look to contin
ue their winning ways this week
in California, as they compete
in the Barona Collegiate Cup on
Monday and Tuesday.
u
We’ll have to play
terrific golf to get a
high finish.
— J.T. Higgins
A&M head golf coach
The 54-hole tournament will
be the last for the Aggies this
fall, and will be the last chance
for Higgins to look at his new
group of freshmen before the
spring season begins.
“We have played a lot of dif
ferent players this fall and our
guys have learned what it takes
to compete at this level. That
has been a really positive
aspect of our fall season,”
Higgins said.
This week California will be
tilled with competition from
many of the West Coast’s best
schools and the Aggies will
need to duplicate their most
recent performance if they
want to finish the season on a
positive note.
“We’ll be competing
against mostly West Coast
teams,” Higgins said. “We’ll
have to play terrific golf to get
a high finish.”
The Aggies will be ending a
challenging fall season with
this week’s tournament.
The team has competed in
five tournaments in a span of
eight weeks, including a trip to
Scotland to begin the season.
Texans lose battle with Browns
CLEVELAND (AP) — Tim
Couch doesn't have anything to
cry about.
Couch, booed by Cleveland
fans in his previous home game,
threw a 25-yard TD pass to
Quincy Morgan and the Browns
sacked David Carr nine times in a
34-17 win Sunday over the
Houston Texans.
Cleveland rookie Andre Davis
had a crucial 95-yard kickoff
return for a TD, and William
Green scored on a 1-yard run as
ihe Browns (3-4) snapped a
jihree-game losing streak.
Phil Dawson kicked two field
goals for Cleveland, which broke
lout new, orange jerseys.
The first-year Texans (1-5)
I missed several chances to make
big plays. Quarterback David
I Carr twice overthrew a wide-
jopen Corey Bradford, and
jHouston made too many mis-
Itakes to pull off the upset.
Houston has lost five straight
since a season-opening win
over Dallas.
Two weeks ago. Couch tear
fully reacted to Cleveland fans
for first booing and then cheering
after he sustained a concussion in
a loss to Baltimore.
Couch heard a few more boos
when the Browns left the field tied
7-7 at halftime. But the former
No. 1 overall draft pick turned
them to cheers by completing 12
of 17 passes for 86 yards and the
TD in the second half.
Couch finished 21-of-31 for
148 yards, and did not throw an
interception for the first time in
13 games dating to last season.
Carr, the No. 1 pick this
year, went 22-of-36 for 267
yards but constantly had to
scramble out of trouble.
The Browns went 13 quarters
without a sack before exploiting
an inexperienced Houston line.
Wide receiver Jabar Gaffney
lined up in the backfield, and
after taking the pitch he threw it
downfield to Bradford, who easi
ly got behind Cleveland’s sec
ondary for a 39-yard TD.
The Texans had the lead for
only 13 seconds.
Davis caught the ensuing
kickoff at the 5 and worked his
way to the left sideline. He used a
head fake to get by kicker Kris
Brown and leapt into Cleveland’s
Dawg Pound after putting the
Browns ahead 17-14.
Brown’s 47-yard field goal
tied it 17-all.
Couch then went 5-for-5 on
Cleveland’s next drive, hitting
Morgan by the front left pylon to
make it 24-17 with 2:15 left in the
third quarter.
Cleveland’s Mark Word
sacked Carr late in the fourth, and
White put it away with a 2-yard
run with 1:56 left.

BRYAN - A new report has just
been released which reveals 7 cost
ly mistakes that most homeowners
make when selling their home,
and a 9 step System that can help
you sell your home fast and for the
most amount of money.
This industry report shows clear
ly how the traditional ways of sell
ing homes have become increas-
ingly less and less effective in
today’s market. The fact of the
This report is courtesy of Andrew Smith, Broker;
matter is that three quarters of
home sellers don’t get what they
want for their homes and become
disillusioned and - worse - finan
cially disadvantaged when they
put their home on the market.
As this report uncovers, most
homesellers make 7 deadly mis
takes that cost them literally thou
sands of dollars. The good news is
that each and every one of these
mistakes is entirely preventable.
In answer to this issue, industry
insiders have prepared a free spe
cial report entitled “The 9 step
