Elvis Presley charted 30 No. 1 hits during his twenty-plus year career, all of which are gathered into this new collection. From “Jailhouse Rock" to “Love Me Tender” and “Suspicious Minds,” Elvis brings proof of his royalty as the King of Rock and Roll into the 21st century. Few other singers have received as much praise as Elvis, and this disc proves why. While the disc includes many popular tracks, only a dozen might sound familiar to Generation X-ers. “A Little Less Conversation (a bonus track), remixed for a Nike commer cial and the Ocean's 11 film, blends Presley’s vocals with a modern techno accompaniment. The marriage works. The other tracks are the original recordings and sound clear and smooth. Listeners should remember that some of the tracks are almost 50 years old, so the sound is not perfectly clear. In his time, Elvis did it all and before any one else. He might mean more to your parents’ generation, but his impact and influence still trickles down through modem pop music. dent advisers and almost everything else involved with college life. The CD starts out on a strange note, wittr song “Idiot Boyfriend,” in which Fallon sin* about everything that he has done wrong to! girlfriend. The track includes hilarious lyritv such as “I’m gonna get you a gift, but it’s something I like too/ Hope you like this Norelco Beard trimmer, cause I’m an idiotai I’m your boyfriend.” The next track, “I Can’t Play Basketball, another riot, although the tune has an eerie i Lint \ to the track "Ciet Down Tonight” by K and the Sunshine band. Another song that stands out is the track “Si ho] -Thomas Phillips Music Review V 2.002 Jimmy Fallon The Bathroom Wall Dreamworks While skeptics may think Jimmy Fallon’s new CD is the latest attempt for an actor to become a rock star, the album’s originality and comedic style speaks for itself. After listening to the 13 track disc, listeners will realize that his new CD, The Bathroom Wall, is anything but an attempt toward *NSync status. The CD consists of five hilari ous songs, and the remainder is fragments of live stand-up comedy that centers around everything from roommates, troll dolls, resi- Boarding,” in which Fallon attempts to mockfe current punk rock style of music, but ends up sounding pretty close to a punk rocker himself The remaining songs are funny and stay* far away from pop culture as possible, with unpolished, random and almost nonsensical lyrics. All these imperfections add humorart: make the CD all the more enjoyable. For those listeners who aren’t impressed^ Fallon’s vocal abilities, the second partoftk CD. featuring live stand-up comedy, should definitely do the trick. It consists of Fallon doing what he does best, which is makingils simplest and most random situations seemca pletely ridiculous. The first feature in the stand-up portionisi skit in which Fallon has mock auditionsfw promoting a new line of troll dolls. He dos impressions of different celebrities trying a. including Jerry Seinfeld. Robin WilliamsaK Nicholas Cage. All of the impressions are w mind-blowingly close to the originals that a make listeners wonder how much free time Fallon has to rehearse them. Following the “Troll Doll Sessions” area series of tear-jerking, hilarious bits about col.: life and how on-campus living basically such The finale of the CD is the auditions fortltt “Troll Doll Jingles,” the sequel to the “Troll Doll Sessions.” "The Troll Doll Jingles"try consist of Fallon vocalizing parodies ofdiffei ent songs from bands such as U2 and Dave Matthews Band. Fallon’s spin of favorites sue as “Desire” and “What Would You Say"prov to be a hilarious ending to the CD. Fallon’s latest album may not be somethin'! listeners will play in the car, at a party orver often for that matter. But every so often, ukn having a bad day or hating on-campus Me, The Bathroom Wall can provide a welcome release.
