we have a clean slate and now we
are going to start a new season.
We have a long way to go, but we
are certainly headed up instead of
down and that’s a good thing.”
Long wasn’t the only success
story for the Aggie offense
Saturday. Sophomore running
back Derek Farmer led the
Aggies with 122 yards rushing on
19 carries for his third 100-yard
rushing performance of his career
and the first since last season
against Iowa State.
‘‘We haven’t been doing too
well the last couple of weeks,”
Farmer said. “We wanted to come
out and show that we do have an
effective offense.”
The Wrecking Crew, ranked
No. 2 in the nation entering the
contest, played its usual domi
nating game. Louisiana Tech
came into the game averaging
more than 300 yards passing;
however, the Aggie defense held
junior quarterback Luke
McCown to 172 yards.
“They are a bunch of mean,
big guys who wanted to kill
me,” McCown said. “This is the
first time I haven’t been able to
move the ball on a team.”
Many critics wondered if the
Wrecking Crew would be able to
contain Louisiana Tech’s passing.
“Coming in we had proved we
could defend the run,” said senior
linebacker Brian Gamble. “But
people were saying ‘what about
the pass?’ I think tonight we
proved we could do both.”
