1 HE BAIT:
"8 Simple Rules for Dating My
Teenage Daughter'
Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. on ABC
Starring John Ritter, Katey Segal
A clever plot and a great cast is one ot the main
attractions ot ABC Fuesday s new show, 8 Simp e
Rules for Dating M> I 1 hl ' I"" 0
gram brings together tw o ot the actors tvhiiu te e
vision’s most memorable characters Jack tripper
and Peg Bundy.
John Ritter leaves behind his days ot playing a
goofy bachelor on ‘Three’s Company*' and takes
on the role of Paul Hennesy, a clueless dad who
agrees to take care ot his three children while his
wife Cate (Katey Segal from "Married with
Children”) returns to work. What seems to be a
simple task turns out to be a huge challenge as
Paul realizes his kids 16-year-old Bridget, 14-
year-old Kerry and 13-year-old Rory aren't tl»e
same little angels whom he used to spend a lew
sweet hours w ith after work in the past.
While Paul tries to do what he thinks is best
for his kids, each of his children seem to have
their own agendas. I he bottom line he doesn t
understand them and they don't understand him.
What follow s as a result is a chain of laugh-out-
loud mishaps and events as Paul tries to be the best
father he can. There is constant mtscommunica-
tion and misunderstandings, which consequently
lead to some hilarious situations. The major nega
tive point in the show is the producers attempt to
fit the children into certain stereotypies, and mak
ing the characters adhere to them strictly.
Bridget's constant attitude towards her father gets
old after a while.
Compared to all of the other shows that prime
time has to offer on Tuesday nights, this show
would probably rank alter "That 70’s Show”
which runs in the same lime slot. As entertaining
as "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage
Daughter” is. it simply doesn't have enough juice
to make loyal "That 70’s Show” viewers ditch
their favorite neo 70's gang.

"Do Over"
Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. on the WB
Starring Penn Badgley
When ihe executives ni the WU •s.u uv-elho to
brainstorm a new show to (ill up the Thursday
night post-Friends death slot, the best they could
come up w ith is “Do Over”: a show packed w ith
constant 80’s references and a lot of distasteful
babbling. The only show comparable to “Do Over
” is “That 80's Show” which Fox canceled after
a season. You would think the WB would have
gotten a hint from Fox's mistake. But it didn't and
as a result viewers have yet another half hour of
mindless jargon on their hands.
The sitcom begins in the present, and the view
ers are introduced to the main character. Jixrl
Larson, a 35-year-old single, balding newspaper
salesman. After a lire in his house renders Joel
unconscious, he wakes up to find himself in 1981.
He’s back in high school and 14 again. How did he
get there? What happened to the fire? All of these
questions remain unanswered as Joel goes around
like an idiot, yelling and swearing that he’s 35 and
in a dream. His ranting continues for the better
part of the show . When he Itnally conic
