KPresident Gates expects all vice presidents of the University to report through the Provost and Executive Vice-president to him, a new procedure, which will place more responsibility in the running of the University with the faculty and deans” Fackler said. i«4rhe main function of the role of executive vice president is to make sure the other academic vice presidents of the University are in sync with the operating side of the University. Bazer said. provost, the new execu tive vice president will work with deans on budgets and is and too many cars,” Weis said. Weis said he would like to sit down with his staff to discuss goals for the program. One important goal he wants to achieve is to make the A&M organization the best in the country. “I want to be that organiza tion that others call for expert advice ” he said. In order to begin the process, Weis said customer service must be improved. “We need to start with the employees. Your organization can only be as good as your employee training,” he said. “If someone asks a question, any one should be able to answer it. It’s all about consistency.” Weis said that simplifying things will help reach his goal. He is implementing a cus tomer online service that will allow customers 24-hour access to their information, allowing them to buy parking permits, view possible cita tions, file appeals and take care of payments. “We went from a student the chief academic officer of the institution. In addition to supervising all academic pro grams, the provost serves as president when University President Dr. Robert M. Gates is out of town or unavailable for decision-making. Former Provost Ron Douglas stepped down from his position on Aug. 1 to allow Gates to make his own appointment. Douglas said he will return to teaching and studying mathematics. David G. Prior took over as interim provost. Spending this fall semster at Texas A&M as a counselor, Douglas will help Gates to acquire more knowledge of the University in a historical context as well as provide him with advice as needed. “Prior may be a candidate for the provost position,” Fackler said. “However, the search will be a national search for the best person.” with the bus system here and that it plays an important role in cutting down the demand for parking spaces. “A&M runs more buses than any major city that is not in the top 50 cities ” he said. Weis will be looking over bus routes both on and off campus to see where improvements in stu dent parking can be made. WELCOME BACK STUDENTS! Get your FREE T-SHIRT today!
