The most common errors were giving hospitalized patients medication at the wrong time or not at all, researchers found in a study of 36 hospitals and nursing homes in Colorado and Georgia. Errors occurred in nearly one of five doses in a typical. 300- bed hospital, which translates to about two errors per patient daily. Seven percent of the errors were considered poten tially harmful. Man convicted for third time ir triple murder of elder siblings SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — A man has been convicted for the third time in the 1983 slayings of three elderly siblings during a robbery. The jury, which has been sequestered, returns Monday to decide whether David Chmiel. 47. should again be sentenced to death. The panel deliberated for 10 hours before returning with its guilty verdict Saturday evening. Chmiel’s previous convictions and death sen tences were overturned on appeal. He was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of Angelina, James and Victor Lunario of Throop, all in their late 60s and early 70s, as well as two counts of robbery and one of burglary. Defense lawyers maintained that the killer was Chmiel’s brother. Martin, w ho was a chief witness for the prosecution. Martin Chmiel testified that he helped plan a robbery, saying he told his brother the Lunarios kept large sums of cash, but had nothing more to do with the scheme. He said David later admitted to him that he stabbed the three and stoic S' from their home.
