"It got my full attention," Heston said during an interview that aired Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show. "I've always been sure of my health and this sud denly gave me something else to think about. But maybe it's good if Cod gives you some thing to think about every so often." Portions of the interview were being broadcast over sev eral days this week on the "Today" show. The 77-year-old actor has given several interviews since his dramatic Aug. 9 videotaped announcement. Heston said he hasn't detect ed any change in his mental capacity. "I feel good," he said. "This came as somewhat of a sur prise. But life is full of surprises, isn't it?" Heston, who won a best-actor Oscar for 1959's Ben-Hur, said he isn't frightened about the future. "Whatever happens happens," he said. "You take it in stride if you can. You don't have many options there." Heston said he's been over whelmed by the response from well-wishers, including calls from President Bush; former first lady Nancy Reagan, whose husband, former President Reagan, suffers from the degenerative brain dis ease; and Sarah Brady, chair woman of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
