SPORTS IN BRIEF Rangers release Burba, recall Benoit ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Texas Rangers released pitcher Dave Burba on Monday, a day after he had a late-game meltdown, and recalled right hander Joaquin Benoit from Triple-A Oklahoma. Burba allowed seven runs and seven hits in one-third of an inning in the Rangers' 12-2 loss to Oakland on Sunday. "I'm shocked a little bit," Burba said as he cleaned out his locker. "I feel like I'm in the twilight zone and I'm trying to find my way out. But I still feel I can pitch." He was 4-5 in 23 games with the Rangers, and since moving to the bullpen July 16, he allowed eight runs in 5 1/3 innings. "Everything I threw out there was flat," Burba said after the Sunday outing that had his ERA rise from 4.86 to 5.42. "It was one of those nights. Batting prac tice was basically what it was." Iverson will face one misdemeanor charge PHILADELPHIA (AP) - NBA All-Star Allen Iverson was cleared of all but a misde meanor Monday at a hearing into charges he stormed into his cousin's apartment with a gun and threatened two men while looking for his wife. Two counts of making terror istic threats were left standing after the six-hour preliminary hearing to determine whether prosecutors had enough evi dence to try Iverson.
