Although the sequel is very entertaining, its predecessor still outshines it. Will Smith plays Jay. and although he still cracks jokes, he is more serious after the loss of his partner and has become the “workaholic†around the office. It is the interplay between Tommy Lee Jones and Smith that first made Men in Black a great movie. It is a treat to see some of the same aliens that were in the first movie. Jeebs the pawnshop owner plays a significant pan, Frank the talking pug is one of Smith’s temporary partners, and the smok ing, drinking, lazy worms are back just in time to mess things up. Some new characters also spice up the cast. Johnny Knoxville of MTV’s “Jackass†plays the part of the villain's accomplice, and while his antics are supposed,to be funny, they come across as asinine. Lara Flynn Boyle plays the shape-shifting villain, and although the alien she morphs into is a little scary, when in human form her character falls a little flat. The plot is well thought out but a little slow getting started. Once the movie picks up and Smith and Jones are reunited, the magic of Men in Black is recaptured. His love interest is played Rosario Dawson, whose character is actually pra admirable and interesting. There are many parallels between the n movies that cause the viewer to wonder wheif they are seeing the same movie again, but refreshing new characters put a spin on AL Black 11 that separates it from the original. If you loved the first Men in Black and a appreciate great special effects, go see A Black II.
