Although staged in modem day Europe, The Bourne Identity seems a bit behind current times in a summer of terrorist bombings and alien encounters. This interna tional espionage movie resembles the paranoia govern ment experienced in the Cold War era as well as the stan dard spy thriller flicks of the time, complete with car chases, fist fights and shoot-outs. Based on a novel by Robert Ludlum, The Bourne Identity may return to the traditional action genre, but it does so with a twist that keeps the audience captivated just enoughtoJ it to continue watching. The movie starts when an unknown man (Damon) is pulled from the rough waters of the Mediter. i by an Italian fishing boat. When the man awakens from his unconsciousness, he has lost all memory! he is, where he is from, and why he is there. He has two bullet holes in his back, which is laterdist to be from a mission gone wrong and the reason for his current situation. Not to mention a Swi, I account number implanted in his hip, which will aid, it at first not contuse him as well as the audit I discovering his identity. Once he is back on land, the man discovers he is Jason Bourne, among one | six identities, who has a residence in Paris, and has uncommon skills in weaponry, fighting, linguisfol distinguishing when danger is present. He also discovers something from his past has put his lifeir j ardy, and he must find who he is in order to understand why people are out to kill him. He offers Marie (Potente), a woman he sees in the U.S. Embassy, a large sum of money to drive4 Paris where he hopes to piece together the puzzle of his identity. As the two embark on what seem a simple journey, it quickly turns into a mad Bight as the two run for their lives, all the while unlock | mystery of Bourne. Backed by a cast of supporting actors, including Chris Cooper, Owen Clive, and Julia Stiles, whc.l have been phenomenal if the screenplay developed their characters more, Damon and Potente takeM light in this film, not just through their characters but also through the chemistry that sparks betweeiJ on screen. This would simply not be an action thriller without a romance, however, this is no more J subplot which tremendously enhances the real plot of the movie. The screenplay of The Bourne Identity may have a few holes and be overrun with ditches, hov: j does offer a new perfect balance of action and suspense. This keeps the audience engaged as the\ ler I Bourne is along with the character, but at the same time allowing the audience to remain a stepI Bourne in this pursuit. zimmmm Xvoi' 1 al all cosh This movie may be too conventi® rank with the greatest of its genre, kv oo&mm Wait lor> tlu> edited 1 1 \ vt rsit n the intelligence of the director Dousla holds it together and makes it worthsa am Pen! if noon matinee. —Udim axon C 'ne lime tf>it to tlie t neater nnfi •S« e it, love if, see il icjuin orship I Director) ^Baptist ‘EpiscopaT Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church College & Career Class You are invited to a Bible Study especially for students.
