NEWS IN BRIEF
Apaches hurt by accusations
against tribal member
CIBECUE, Ariz. (AP) — Travis Duryea has noticed
an undercurrent of fear among the White
Mountain Apaches since a member of the tribe
was accused of starting a huge forest fire.
Accustomed to heading north to the predom
inantly white Show Low area to shop and work,
some tribe members have become reluctant to
do so since Leonard Gregg was arrested on led
eral charges. Jl||
“A lot of people are afraid to go up them
because they're mad at us just because of this
one idiot," said Duryea, a neighbor of Gre$
"We're not all bad." I'M. I
Gregg is accused of starting one of the two wi
fires that combined into one wind-driven bl®
that destroyed more than 400 homes and fore
more than 25,000 people to flee their towns.
