THE BATTALION
On May 28, Eminem released his new album
entitled The Eminem Show. The talented artist
has sold over 1.3 million copies in just over a
week. On this newest effort, it seems as if he is
not worried about topping the sales of his past
albums, only improving the rhymes in his lyrics.
Eminem expresses his insecurities and gives
his listeners a sense of understanding his crazy
life. Even though Eminem enjoys keeping his
mystique, he is fearless in exposing his insecuri
ties about his height, skin color and sanity.
Eminem begins his album with the opening
song “White America,” which sums up the
artist’s feelings on how his skin color is the result
of his renowned popularity and the reason his
lyrics are scrutinized by critics. In the song,
Eminem makes the statement, “I could be one of
your kids,” to refer to the reason critics denounce
his lyrics. Eminem believes parents do not like
his lyrics because it could be their children say
ing or feeling the same things he says.
On track 14, “Hailie’s Song,” the rapper
experiments with his vocals by singing which
adds a new twist to his album. In the song,
Eminem expresses his fear of losing his daugh
ter. By revealing his fears, Eminem exposes
himself to his fans, which undoubtedly shows
his maturity.
In his album, the misunderstood rhyming guru
refers to himself by his given name, Marshall
Mathers. He feels as if his fans only know him as
the rapper, Eminem, and that the fans are clueless
about who Marshall Mathers really is.
As one of the most controversial figures
hip-hop history, Eminem carries on his tough
image in The Eminem Show by making countle
threats against his family, along with others,!

As you listen to The Eminem Show, youcj

MTV, Hard Rock
Hotel sued for TV
show prank
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A
Washington. D.C., couple is
suing the Hard Rock Hotel and
MTV, claiming invasion of priva
cy during a reality TV show
prank.
James and Laurie Ryan are
suing the Las Vegas resort and
the network for $10 million over
the TV series “Harassment.”
Their case was moved early this
month from Superior Court in
Los Angeles to federal court in
Washington, D.C.
The lawsuit said the couple
believed they were going to be
spending a vacation at the hotel
in January. Instead, the Ryans
were given a room with hidden
cameras that captured their
shock as they discovered what
appeared to be a mutilated
corpse in the bathroom.
When they tried to leave the
room, two actors posing as
security guards forced them
back inside until Ashton
Kutcher, the show’s host and
co-producer, emerged to reveal
the gag.
Kutcher has described the
show in interviews as a
“Guerrilla Candid Camera.”
The complaint alleged inva
sion of privacy, fraud and
infliction of emotional distress.
The Ryans' Washington, D.C.,
attorney, Dan Rozansky,
expects the case to go to trial
sometime next year.
Don Marrandino, Hard
Rock’s president, said Monday
he hadn’t seen a copy of the
lawsuit. MTV representatives
declined comment.
