Astros ready pari

HOUSTON (AP) — Oranges are now fashionable at the Hoi
Astros’ newly named ballpark.
Workers spent last weekend starting to plaster the new nair :
Minute Maid Park — on banners and signs throughout the 3-yea.:
stadium.
Since the start of this season, it had been called Astros Fie
team owner Drayton McLane worked to find a new naming r
partner following the demise of Houston-based Enron Corp.
The bankrupt energy trader’s name had been on everything
staff uniforms to cups, napkins, plates and tickets sold before the
of the 2002 season.
Fans attending Houston’s Monday night game against theCht
Cubs were first to see the initial results of the name ck
announced last week when the Astros were out of town.
“Fans will be able to tell this is Minute Maid Park,” Astra
president of engineering Bert Pope said of the dozens of logosg
throughout the park.
Signs designating various sections at the retractable roofbal
include oranges designed to look like baseballs. The top of the w
dugout also has new greeting: “Welcome to Minute Maid Pari
The team’s proposed logo includes its new name in whil
orange lettering atop a black baseball diamond. A large orange,
rated with seams like a baseball, sits atop the Minute Maid namev
second base would be on its diamond background. Green, yello*
blue trace the letters of the baseball field’s new name in the logo,*
includes a green leaf sprouting from the top of the orange.
Three months ago, the Astros removed the last vestiges of En
name from of the park after buying the bankrupt energy gianioc
its 30-year, $100 million naming rights contract. The Astros
$2.1 million to get out of the deal.

Also striving for the second
round on Tuesday were defend
ing champion France, Senegal,
Denmark and Uruguay in Group
A; Gennany, Cameroon and
Ireland in Group E.
France needed to beat
Denmark by two goals or
become the first defending
champion since Brazil in 1966
not to get out of the opening
round. Senegal needed only a tie
against Uruguay, which had only
a small chance of advancing.
Gennany would move on if it
tied or beat Cameroon, which
could clinch a second-rot

Arabia. Ireland needed a

The UIL requires its coach

Any coach encouraging
steroid use would be violating
UIL ethics rules and could face
sanctions, he said.
