Not ualid iwith any other offers. 0 Thursday, June 6, 2002 THE BATTALION Music Review V 2.002 Audio Vent Dirty Sexy Knights of Paris Atlantic Records Audio Vent’s debut album on Atlantic Records marks an important step for the band. Formerly known as Vent, the band formed in 1993 and recently signed with Atlantic for the release of Dirty Sexy Knights of Paris. Coming from the small town of Calabassas, Calif., Audio Vent’s members formed close bonds growing up with each other. Audio Vents most challenging issue was over coming its family ties to Incubus, a band also from Calabassas. Jason Boyd (vocalist for Audio Vent) is brother to lead singer Brandon Boyd of Incubus, Ben Einzinger is brother to Incubus gui tarist Mike Einzinger and bassist Paul Fried is Einzinger’s stepbrother. Rather than use the kin ship ties with Incubus to spread its name and gain national attention, Audio Vent has chosen to make it interdependently by creating a mix of punk rock with classic rock and roll. With the help of producer Gavin Mackillop, Audio Vent was able to re-record and improve many of the songs that were on their self-released album Papa’s Dojo. Songs such as “I Can’t Breathe” contain a mix of hard rocking guitar riffs with a more peaceful acoustic guitar section that mixes well with Boyd’s emotional vocals. Explosive drum beats and heavy bass guitar riffs are the backbone for songs like “Rain.” Creative lyrics round off the album as Boyd sings heavily about the paralysis and pain of breaking up with his girlfriend. “Sweet Frustration” and “The Energy” powerfully explain how he won’t let himself experience that pain again. Einzinger takes over on “When 1 Drown” as he provides lead vocals and plays piano. From the punk rock sounds of “Stalker" and “Gravity” to the dramatic symphonic sounds of “When 1 Drown,” success should be on the hori zon for Audio Vent. Kelly was indicted Wednesday on child pornography charges stemming from a videotape that officials say shows the Grammy winner having sex with an underage girl, a source in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said. A grand jury charged Kelly, whose first name is Robert, with 21 counts of child pornography, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The court documents were not immediately released. The felony charge carries a prison term of up to 15 years and a fine of up to $100,000. The source said a warrant had been issued for Kelly’s arrest. Lawyers for the 33- year-old Chicago native did not immediately return calls to The Associated Press.
