“If bee keepers do have Africanized bees
in their hives, the quarantine prevents them
from spreading,” Baxter said.
Baxter said the state is working with bee
keepers, stressing cleanliness and control of
hives, to prevent the spread of Africanized
honeybees.
“The more good, gentle honeybees we
have, the less room there is for the
Africanized bees,” Baxter said.
People also can take extra precautions to
protect themselves from the bees by know
ing where they commonly like to nest,
Baxter said.
“People need to be aware of what’s in
their yards," Baxter said. "Bees will get into
strange places.”
According to the AgNews Website, those
places can include holes or cracks in build
ing walls and trees, underneath
homes, meter boxes, flower pots, oio®
bams or sheds, underneath picnic table --
in park shelters. '
If stung by a bee, one should rente ■
