But this Friday at Lake Bryan, several bands will rock against racism. The Rock Against Racism concert will be held at Lake Bryan and will feature Skate Around Chippy, Same Day Service, Groceries, Pavlov’s Dogs, Thanks For The Update, Canvas, Mr. Body, We Talked About Murder and TwoSpy. Proceeds from the concert will benefit The Positive Youth Foundation, a non-profit organi zation that promotes education of racism and other related issues. Brooke Hudson, a freshman English major and historian for KANM radio, spearheaded the project. Hudson is also a DJ for KANM, where she plays punk and ska. She said she wanted her show to have a purpose, so she invited people to talk about racism. “Racism is inherent every where you go,†Hudson said. “I got tired of it. After seeing what happened in Jasper, see ing organizations like the Ku Klux Klan and even the movie American History X, I was enraged. Why do we live like this? We don’t have to." Hudson said she came up with the concert idea before the Sept. 1 1 tragedy. She said it is important that people realize the negative effects of racism. “It’s ridiculous. Being treated differently based on race is just ridicu lous,†Hudson said. “People should accept others for who they are, not based on race. If you look at genetics, race doesn't really exist anyways.†Along with fighting racism, the concert offers music that is not common in area venues. The concert will feature several punk bands, as well as alternative and “indie†rock bands. Rock Against Racism will provide an opportunity for many musi cians to spread their sound to new audience. Kevin Jordan of Thanks For The Update said he and the band are excited to be a part of Rock Against Racism. “When we were asked to perform we were more than happy, because it was a great up chance to get our music out to a different audience, and when we saw the list of bands that were playing we were excited,†Jordan said. “The bands are Pavlov's Dogs (above) TwoSpy (left) are two ban* scheduled to play at Rod Against Racism.
