Starsailor to perform free shol
By Lycia Shrum
THE BATTALION
It has been one year since New Musical
Express magazine named Starsailor the best new
band in Britain.
With its debut album Love is Here, Starsailor
already had its first single “Good Souls”
embraced in the United States. “Good Souls”
was the song that helped Starsailor gain recog
nition in the states. Its unconventional release
of “Fever” launched it to stardom in Britain.
Ben Byrne, drummer for Starsailor, said there
was pressure on the band to get something
released as soon as possible because of the band’s
increased recognition.
“We hadn’t even written the album when
‘Fever’ was released,” Byrne said. “The song was a
demo we had recorded live from the year before.”
“Fever” gained raves in Britain, and Byrne said
that “Good Souls” was the next obvious choice.
“The reason ‘Good Souls’ was chosen for the
first single in America was because it just had this
sound about it,” Byrne said, “It seems to have
done really well so far.”
Byrne said the next single lined up for release
is one of the more upbeat songs on the album,
“Poor Misguided Fool.” Byrne said “Poor
Misguided Fool” will fit more into the rock scene
in America and appeal to more people.
Byrne said he definitely noticed a differ
ence between Britain and the United States

“It’s kind of like an arrogant I.Q. toi

audience is a lot more overwhelming and
more appreciative. Probably abitmoreovei
