12 Tuesday, April 2, 2002 THE BATTAL Hot-hitting Aggies return home, face A&M-Corpus Chris! Staff & Wire After scoring 25 runs in a weekend doubleheader against Centenary, the No. 16 Texas A&M baseball team (23- 10, 7-5) will bring its offense back to the friendly confines of Olsen Field when it hosts the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at 7 p.m. A&M junior David Evans, who delivered three doubles and a home run over the weekend, was joined by sophomore Rusty Meyer’s two dou bles and a long ball. Solid pitching performances kept the Centenary team under wraps and was highlighted by the seven strong innings of sophomore Justin Moore, en route to his third win of the season. Moore allowed only two runs and struck out four in Friday’s first game. The Aggies went on to win the game 10-4. Steven Ponder took advantage of his first start of the season by only allowing two earned runs and earning the win in the second matchup. Aggie relievers combined for four scoreless innings to close out the win, 15-3. Head coach Mark Johnson will turn to sophomore left-hander Kyle Parcus to hold off the Islanders. Parcus enters the game with a 1-2 record and has recorded 21 strikeouts in just over 28 innings of work this season. The Islanders (13-19) come into the game after claiming two of three from the University of Texas-Pan American last weekend. In the third and deciding game, all but one of the Islander starters recorded a hit, and five runs in the first two innings provided the insurance they needed to hold off a late UTPA rally and claim a 9-7 win. In the win. Islander junior Humberto Aguilar hit his 11th home run of the season and freshman second baseman Jaime Landin set a school record with four hits including a triple to open the game. Earlier in the week, the swept a two-game series as Centenary that included a 14- in the second game. The Aggies have won six of 4 last seven games after a series s\v the hands of the Nebraska Comhu in Lincoln March 15-17. The contest begins a stretch which nine of the next lOAggies, will be played at Olsen Field.
