The film blends action, romance and horror into a science fiction adventure that is heavy on the fiction and not on the science. This movie tells a story — an unpredictable, intriguing story —- without turning into a lecture on the physics and philosophy of time travel. Unlike other time travel movies, this one DOES not get bogged down in the rocket-science details of trying to determine nonsense such as, “if Alex goes back in time and meets his past self, will the universe explode?” Alex tries to prevent a horrible accident by building a time machine and going back to the night of the catastrophe only to find tragedy still strikes. Set in New York City in the late 19th century, the 21 st century and so far into the future that time must be measured in hundreds of millennia, the filmmakers have created a visually-entertaining movie aside from any plot and dialogue consider ations. Alex sees the evolution of technology and society and the work of geology, all from his time-defying contraption. Instead of having Alex overwhelmed by suddenly living in an electrorr and automated New York City or a retrograi planet Earth, the character stays focused out. goals, anD, yet while awed, is no less deternit: In this film, plot and prociuction makeupfa what is lacking in script and performae (Grade: B) —Thomas Phil I ■K orship Directory STssemSCif of god ‘Episcopal Bethel Temple Assembly of God 2608 Villa Maria, Bryan 776-4835 Sunday Worship 10:15, 6:00 pm Sunday School 9:00 www.startel.net/bethel St. Thomas Episcopal 906 George Bush Dr. • College Station, TX 696-1726 Services - 8:00 (Rite I), 9:00 (Family Service-Ftite II) and 11:15 a.m. (Rite ll-for late sleeping Ags) 7:30 p.m. Evensong Next door to Canterbury House, the Episopal Student Center ^Baptist V\(pn-E>enominatwnaf Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church College & Career Class You are invited to a Bible study especially for students.
