Graduating college students
are preparing to face a recently
changed job market.
Employment offers are being
revoked, job searches are taking
longer and competition is fierce.
According to the annual Job
Outlook survey by the National
Association of Colleges and
Employers, 30 percent of
employers said they will hire
fewer new graduates from the
Class of 2002.
Students are dealing with
post-graduation troubles in dif
ferent ways. They are consider
ing different fields, holding off
on job decisions and choosing
to continue their education.
Lauren Jones, a senior
English major, is one of the stu
dents who has decided to go to
graduate school.
“Right now, it seems like
unless you get a master’s degree,
you won't be getting a decent
job any time soon. And when
you do get your master’s, you
have a shot at getting a better job
no matter what,” Jones said.
In addition to opting for
graduate school, some students
are receiving and accepting job
offers from outside their major.
Catherine Wilson, a senior
biochemistry major, is among
the seniors who are being
offered jobs other than what
they expected.
