THE BATTALION Wednesday, March 20, 2002
Hawkeyes
Continued from page 5
Kleinecke said. “She gave it everything she had on Sunday and just
fell short. She has come on strong as of late, and it has been a big
help for the team.”
The doubles point promises to be an important part of the match
for both teams. Iowa is 4-0 when winning the doubles point and 0-
7 after losing the point.
Meanwhile the Aggies are 12-0 after winning the doubles point
and 0-2 when they fail to win the point.
“Doubles is always a key point,” Kleinecke said. “Not only is it
a point, but it gives the team momentum and sets the tone for the rest
of the match going into singles.”
The No. 14 team of Ashley Hedburg and Jessica Roland hope to
continue its strong play on the doubles courts, while the No. 59 duo
of Leah Killen and Martina Nedorostova will try to finish off the
doubles point and improve the Aggie record to 13-0.
The match is one of two home matches this week for A&M
before the Aggies enter a six game stretch on the road against five
Big 12 opponents and the University of Houston.
First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center.

strong performances on the
mound and at the plate.
Freshman Adrian Gregory con
tinues to lead the offensive pro
duction for the Aggies, posting
a .369 batting average and a
.454 on-base percentage.
The University of Houston
Cougars (21-12) are batting
.295 as a team and could pose a
threat to the Aggies’ pitching
and defense.
“The Cougars are doing really
well offensively this season with
strong hitters,” Evans said. “We
will have to work hard defensive
ly to shut them down.”
The Aggies meet the
Cougars in Houston at 7 p.m.
SPORTS IN BRIEF
Aggies continue
spring practice
The Texas A&M football
team had its second day of
spring drills Tuesday, practic
ing for about two hours in
shorts and helmets on the
grass practice fields.
Junior linebacker Jarrod
Penright was limited to light
jogging while the rest of the
team practiced. Penright is still
recovering from off-season
surgery.
"I thought we've had a good
enthusiasm with our guys and
they've worked hard in both
practices," said A&M head
coach R.C. Slocum.
The Aggies will take
Wednesday off and practice in
pads Thursday.
