and it has the potential to be greater than it
already is.”
Stout believes that A&M will reach Vision
2020 through its goals of becoming a more
diverse University.
Stout is also the author of several books. Her
book. Porter: A Sense of Times, won the C. Hugh
Holman Award of the Society for the Study of
Southern Literature.
This spring. Stout was honored with two
diversity awards: one from academic affairs
and one from student affairs.
Stout and her husband, Loren Lutes, a retired
professor of civil engineering at Texas A&M,
plan to move to the mountains of New Mexico
and build a home.
“If you want to have another adventure in
your life, you don't want to wait too long,” Stout
said of her retirement.
When Stout's retirement is finalized. Dr.
Karan Watson, currently associate dean of engi
neering, will fill the position.
Stout said Watson is a great candidate for the
position, because Watson advocates diversity
among teachers and bettering teaching strategies.
