WASHINGTON (AP) —The government filed
an indictment in federal court in Boston
Wednesday charging alleged shoe bomber
Richard Reid with eight counts,
including attempted use of a
weapon of mass destruction and
attempted murder.
The charges, which came the
day after the federal government
filed a host of charges against
American-Taliban John Walker
Lindh, were handed up by a
federal grand jury. Reid has
been held since the December
Plymouth, Mass.
A 12-page indictment alleges that Reid
received training from al-Qaida in Afghanistan
and attempted to kill the passengers on American
Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami on Dec. 22.

Remembering 17 hours and two Black Hawks down
In the early 1990s, thousands of Somalis were starving to death as incoming aid was confiscated by
competing warlords. Mogadishu, the dangerous capital, became the focus of a military action by UN
and U.S. forces who sought to capture the most troublesome warlord, Mohammed Farah Aidid, and
his militia. In a raid on Oct. 3-4, 1993, 18 Americans and hundreds of Somalis were killed.
