Wanted and unwanted gifts leave students waiting in gift return linei W By Bethany Brown THE BATTALION Courtney Vogelsang, a junior speech communica tions major, received a package of Oreos and hot chocolate for Christmas from her aunt ami uncle. She said the gift surprised her. because she had never re ally thought someone would give Oreos as a gift "The gift was so random,” Vogelsang said. “I had been expecting money or something simple like that, but no, we got cookies.” Like most students, Vogelsang said she tried to be polite. “1 tried to smile and say thank you. I didn’t want to hurt their feelings, because they were nice enough to give me a gift." Vogelsang said. “After they left. 1 just gave the gift to my dad to take on his hunting trip.” Every year on Christmas morning, students stumble out of bed and sleepily wander to their Christmas trees to discover what Santa Claus brought. Excitement builds as they begin to tear open packages, hoping to find the perfect gift. Sadly, what some students find makes them sigh, force a smile and ask. “Where is the receipt?” Scott Landfried, a junior speech communi cations major, said he is accustomed to getting bad Christmas gifts, especially from his grandmother. Landfried said his grand mother likes to buy random trinkets for her grandchildren. \ “The problem with my \ grandma is that she doesn’t even \ bother asking my mom what I \ want for Christmas,” Landfried \ said. “She just rushes to the nearest \ knickknack store and buys me some thing she thinks I would likeA’ Landfried said that he has dropped hints to his grandmother ft V about her presents. ”1 thought that she would catch on after them teenth consecutive year of me asking for they ceipts, but no, she continues with her bad gift rife lion.” Landfried said.
