Southern Colorado State
College and a master’s
degree in physics from
Baylor University.
Robinson graduated with a
Ph.D. in petroleum engi
neering from A&M in 1974.
From 1975 to 1978, he
worked as a reservoir engi
neer in Bakersfield, Calif.,
where he directed and man
aged all reservoir engineer
ing, drilling, enhanced oil
recovery and mining pro
jects for the Joaquin Valley
Operations.
Robinson has worked as
a manager for Grace
Petroleum Corporation in
Oklahoma City from 1978
to 1979, where he managed
the acquisition, development
and sale of all enhanced
recovery operations.
From 1981 to 1984,
Robinson worked as a spe
cial projects coordinator
for the Getty Research
Center in Houston, where
he coordinated all of the
planning, budgeting, hiring
and operations.
He also served as man
ager of reservoir engineer
ing research, manager of
international applications,
manager of international
applications and technolo
gy transfer and general
manager of the exploration
and production technology
department for Texaco Inc.,
from 1984 to 1989.
Since 1996, Robinson
has been president of
Texaco’s technology divi
sion, where he was respon
sible for all of Texaco’s
research, development,
engineering, information
technology and technical
applications worldwide.
“I have known him for
several years and he is a
good man for the job,” said
Larry D. Piper, undergrad
uate advisor of petroleum
engineering.
Charles H. Bowman
retired as department head
on Nov. 12, when
Robinson took over the
position.
“I have every confi
dence that under him, we
will see new and even more
exciting accomplishments
in the days to come,”
Bowman said.

isn’t true here,” said Kim Foutz, director of
economic development.
The report also gave the Bryan-College
Station workers high marks for productivity.
“With these rates, it is hard to predict
what that means for Bryan-College Station,”
Foutz said.
Houston, Bryan-College Station’s near
est heavily populated city, had an unem
ployment rate in September of 5.6 percent
and dropped in the month of October to 4.3
percent.
The highest unemployment rate in the
state was 10.8 percent in the McAllen-
Edinburg-Mission area, followed by
Brownsville-Harlingen-San Benito area at
9.2 percent. El Paso had an 8.0 percent
unemployment rate, Beaumont-Port Arthur
stands at 7.4 percent and Sherman-Dennison
had a rate of 6.3 percent.
“In this area, we are more diverse and def
initely not seeing job losses,” Mower said.
