Chargers when they both had a 4-28 record in 2000.
Each section begins with comments on the game and clas
sic pictures of football players surrounded by haiku.
Haiku is an ancient art form that creates poems out of
three, lines. The first and third lines have five syllables and
the second has seven.
While Easterbrook had no training in the art form, he
makes it funny, thoughtful and incorporates football terms.
Easterbrook appeared on the NPR radio show “All Things
Considered” and was the first person to recite professional
football poetry to a national audience.
Tuesday Morning Quarterback includes funny haikus such as:
“Ideally, I don’t play.
Fans wince when I trot on the field.
I am the punter."
“Where’s that darn remote?
Found, click. Shoot, dropped it again.
Two games on at once.”
Tuesday Morning Quarterback makes a great coffee table
book, and if readers do not appreciate the art of haiku, this
6-by-7-inch book makes a great coaster for beer during the
games. (Grade: B)
