Last Free Exit returns for
Saturday night performance

THE BATTALION
After moving to Austin one
year ago. Last Free Exit will
return to its College Station
roots Saturday night.
J.T. Stewart, lead singer and
rhythm guitar player, said the
band looks forward to the
upcoming performance with Sly
Letter at Third Floor Cantina.
Although both bands originat
ed during members* undergradu
ate years at Texas A&M. they
have never played a show togeth
er. Nonetheless, Stewart said he
thinks the two bands have similar
views about making music.
“We both started out in
College Station and have moved
on to bigger cities, so we each
understand what the other has
been through,” he said.
Stewart said the number of
familiar faces becomes more
scarce with each return to
College Station, but their fan
base seems to be growing.
“It's disheartening and
exciting at the same time,”
Stewart said. “It’s mostly
exciting though.”
Stewart said the band realizes
people come and go in the music
business and life in general.
“It makes you tighter as a
band,” he said. “It makes you
love music more.”
When Last Free Exit played
gigs as students, the audience
formed what Stewart describes as
a “tribe of sorts,” including
friends of tffe hand and regular
fans.
Loyal followers of Last Free
Exit may find a new edge in
Saturday’s show, however.
Stewart said the band’s perform
ance has grown more dynamic

with maturity, stemming in part
from the new sphere Last Free
Exit has entered.
Moving from College Station
to Austin, the band no longer can
claim its status as the big Fish in
the small pond of Aggieland.
“To go from six clubs and
10 bands in College Station, to
Austin, where there's 100 clubs
and 1.000 band
humbling,” Stewart sa
