Rollin’ On Rolling Stone magazine brings 'Rolling Stone Unleashed' to Texas A&M campus By Crystal Dobson THE BATTALION Kellie Lewis, a subscriber to Rolling Stone magazine and a sophomore general studies major, has been looking forward to ‘Rolling Stone Unleashed’ for a year. “I can recall hearing about the tour last year, hoping the magazine would travel to College Station,” Lewis said. “When 1 dis covered A&M was one of the tour stops, 1 was pretty pumped. After all, it’s not every day a person can experience the voice of American music for free.” On Tuesday, Rolling Stone will make its voice heard from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rudder Fountain. Its college signature program, known as ‘Rolling Stone Unleashed’, will offer an assortment of activities for students to participate in and win prizes. Rolling Stone will visit Texas A&M and Southern Methodist University. This year, 12 campuses in the United States have been targeted as high-enrollment schools with positive atmospheres where Rolling Stone has not yet traveled. Lizette Monteiro, spe cial projects director for Rolling Stone, describes ‘Rolling Stone Unleashed’ as a fun, different way to learn more about music and encourages students to stop by Rudder Fountain to see everything Rolling Stone has to offer. “The magazine targets activities like ‘Rolling Stone Unleashed’ through the college mar ket,” Monteiro sad. “This is because most of our readers are young and love music. ‘Rolling Stone Unleashed’ is a free and fun means of testing musical knowl edge while winning prizes from certain spon sors.” Among the activities to participate, the primary ones are “What’s That Track,” “Video Karaoke,” “Cover Shoot” and “Sony Song Scan.” “What’s That Track” is the main event of the program and will be giving away the largest prize. There are three teams of two people who compete during each round of the game. The contestants excel based on their music smarts. At the end of the day, the winning team wins large prizes like a scanner, headphones, XM Satellite Radio service, K-Swiss items, DVDs and a Mastercard gift certificate. The grand total is about $ 1,000. Students can choose a video they wish to star in and record it as well. “Video Karaoke” produces a music video with the student as the artist. A booth is available for students who have imagined at some time or another what their picture would look like on the cover of Rolling Stone.“Cover Shoot” has a camera and a backdrop set up so students can get pictures taken and printed as a mock cover of Rolling Stone. “Sony Song Scan” is there fordesinS disc jockeys and others who are faraiii with musical lyrics.
