immediate threats or indica
tions of any threats to the Bush
complex or any other location
on campus, Wiatt said.
These are only precau
tionary measures, and there
is no need for panic or fear,
Wiatt said. Further security
measures are not planned,
but if a threat seems possi
ble, action will be taken.
Wiatt also said that this
is not a time for practical
jokes or tests on security
measures.
“Jokes will not be tolerat
ed with anthrax or anything
else. Anything like this will
be dealt with in the most
serious manor,” Wiatt said.
Blake said the library was
the most likely site on cam
pus to become a potential
terrorist target.
“I think an attack on this
particular facility would be
used to symbolically affect
President George W. Bush,
and of course in response to
the former president’s
(George H. W. Bush)
involvement in the Gulf
War,” Blake said.
Hobby
Continued from Page 1
Hobby also emphasized the
importance of bilingual educa
tion and the rising minority pop
ulation in the state.
“In order to see what the
country is like, look at Houston
and its burgeoning Hispanic and
Asian population,” Hobby said.
Hobby also served as the pres
ident of the Houston Post for
nearly 21 years and as Chairman
of the Board of H&C
Communications until his retire
ment in 1996.
In addition to his many offices
and chairmanships. Hobby has
been honored numerous times,
named a Distinguished Alumnus
by Rice University President
Emeritus by the Texas Senate and
given the Santa Rita Award.
Hobby also holds doctorates
from four universities.
