Cowboys
IRVING, Texas (AP) — Dallas Cowboys
quarterback Anthony Wright did not prac
tice Wednesday because of fluid on his right
knee, and coach Dave Campo indicated that
Wright might not play Sunday.
Wright expected to have results of an MRI
on Thursday, and Campo said he would not
make a final decision on the quarterback’s
playing status for the Arizona game until after
that. Wright has started three of five games in
place of injured rookie Quincy Carter.
Campo said Clint Stoerner would start
ahead of Ryan Leaf, the former No. 2 over
all pick the Cowboys signed Oct. 12, if
QB woes
Wright is not ready to play Sunday.
“Clint understands the offense, and
knows what we are trying to get accom
plished,” Campo said. “At this point if An
thony can not go, I don’t see that changing
before the end of the week.”
Stoerner, a second-year player from
Arkansas, has never started in the NFL. He
has played in only three games, completing
4-of-7 passes for 44 yards and two touch
downs in his two appearances this season.
Dallas was prepared to sign Leaf then, but
he failed a physical because of a wrist prob
lem. His second chance with the Cowboys
continue
came after Carter tore his left hamstring at
Oakland on Oct. 7.
Campo said there was a good chance that
Leaf could play for the Cowboys on Sunday.
“I feel comfortable that Ryan can do
everything we’re asking him to do,” Campo
said. “The wrist isn’t a factor now. But we
haven’t gone through a crises, he hasn’t been
on the field yet.”
After the Cowboys’ 9-7 win over Wash
ington on Oct. 15, Wright had some
swelling in the knee and did not take part in
the team’s only two practices before having
last weekend off.
Big 12
Continued from Page 7
In each of the last 38 meet
ings between the two schools, at
least one team has been ranked.
In 34 of the 38, one of the two
teams was in The Associated
Press top 10.
The Sooners’ 31-14 win last
season snapped a Nebraksa
series-long, seven-game win
ning streak.
The Huskers hold the
nation’s longest Division A
home winning streak at 19
games, and slightly are favored
in the contest. Meanwhile, OU
is 10-1 against ranked teams
under head coach Bob Stoops.
The Sooners also hold a 20-
ganie winning streak and have
not lost to a team ranked in the
top 10 in its last eight attempts.
Something will have to
give when the two powerhous
es collide at 1 1 a.m. Saturday.
Something in the water
The University of
Missouri may have the best
1-2 punch of linebackers in
the nation in Sean Doyle and
Jamonte Robinson.
Combined, the duo average
25.3 stops per game, and both
are in the top five in the con
ference in tackles.
Doyle, who recorded 16
tackles against Iowa State on
Oct. 13, is No. 2 in the con
ference, while Robinson
comes in fifth. Robinson also
had a solid performance
against the Cyclones, piling
up a career-high 18 tackles.
TCU
Continued from Page 7
Janes, Rose, freshman Dan
Blanchard and senior Pat
Kennedy combined to set the
Missouri pool record by nearly
two seconds.
“That was the best swim of
the weekend,” Nash said. “They
were four guys who were almost
toast by the time they got there,
but saw what the pool record
was, thought they could take a
run at it, and this is a record
from (a pool) that has had con
ference championships there.”
The A&M women’s team
also traveled to Missouri,
placing fourth out of five
schools in the relays, one point
behind the University of
Kansas for third place.
The women lost their dual
meet to Missouri 191.5 to 108.5.
The numbers could be deceiv
ing this early in the year, how
ever, with many new swimmers
adding to the mix. The A&M
women’s team added 13 fresh
men to this year’s team, as well
as two transfers.
Two bright spots during the
dual meet for the women were
senior All-American Clara Ho
and freshmen Tiffany Moore.
Ho won two events, the 100-
and 200-yard butterfly, while
Moore took gold in the 1000-
yard freestyle.
Both teams look to continue
winning today. For the men’s
team, this meet is a chance to
carry its momentum from last
weekend’s relays. For the
women, it will be an opportuni
ty to get back to last season’s
winning ways.
