Joey and Lance of ’NSYNC talk aboi
[hursday,
W
their first major film y On the Line
By Lizette Resendez
THE BATTALION
Lance Bass and Joey Fatone
want to set one thing straight
— On The Line is not an
’NSYNC movie.
“It’s not an ’NSYNC movie
at all,” Bass said. “The reason
we chose the script was because
it appealed to everybody.”
In their feature film debut,
Bass and Fatone play best buds
in their mid-20s and -30s living
in Chicago. Fatone plays Rod,
Bass’ character, Kevin’s, best
friend.
In a press release, Bass said
Fatone’s portrayal of Rod was
remarkable.
“The way he took the char
acter to a new level and made
him so funny was incredible to
me,” Bass said. “I don’t think
any of us knew how hilarious
he could be.”
Fatone also is rumored to do
a rendition of Def Leppard’s
“Pour Some Sugar on Me” dur
ing which he literally pours
sugar on himself.
Bass, one of the executive
producers, said he originally
did not want to star as Kevin in
the movie.
“We had so many people in
line,” Bass said, which includ
ed Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Ryan
Phillippe. “We actually wanted
a pretty new face because we
wanted people to really com
municate with the character.”
Wendy Thorlakson, an exec
utive producer of On the Line,
said there were many similari
ties between Bass and his char
acter who searches for a girl he
fell in love at first sight with on
a train in Chicago.
“He’s really a
romantic, just like
Thorlakson said in
release. “It seemed
was a sweet, winning role tai
lor-made for him.”
While Bass considers him
self a hopeless romantic, he is
not as hopeless as his character
in On the Line.
“I would not go the lengths
that (Kevin) did to find this girl
again,” Bass said.

It’s a learning
experience; we’re
very proud of this
movie. But we have
something nice to
fall back on if ("On

“You think of him as this
big comedy guy,” Bass said.
“One of the first scenes was an
emotional sad scene. He almost
made me cry.”
Bass and Fatone said they
both enjoyed working with the
actors and making the movie,
but said it was very different
from their performances with
’NSYNC.
“It’s amazing to go home
every night to the same bed,”
Bass said, comparing it to a gru
eling tour schedule of traveling
from city to city. “It was different
and challenging and creative.”
Fatone said that while they
were able to stay on setfiq
to three months,
scene several times becj
trying.
Fatone described thei
ent angles each scene raaylj
been shot, such as a wide-J
a close-up shot of one peij
and sometimes an aerials
“ Fhere are so many J
that go into one scene andj
can take hours,” Fatone
“It can take a whole day.“
While Bass and Fatone*

“They were actually a j
surprised,” Bass said,
they're very critical of *1

Bass and Fatone said
they are willing to give acn|
another shot when the him
right but would keep
music careers first.
"I'm definitely going tot
it again,” Bass said. "Even 1
this movie doesn't do as
as people expect,
always another.”
