He is on top of them every time they run the ball.” Rodriguez returned an interception for a touchdown against McNeese State earlier this season, and finished Saturday with five tackles. “I’m very proud of our defense as a unit,” Rodriguez said. “We showed we can deal with one of the better teams in the conference. Their record won’t show that they are one of the better teams, but they have weapons all over and they know how to use them.” It was in the fourth quarter that K-State used those weapons. The Wildcat defense stood strong and did not give a yard to the Aggies in the final frame. Meanwhile, KSU’s offense piled up 14 points and 132 yards. “When the offense made mistakes, it didn't kill our defense’s momentum,” said KSU defensive tackle Tank Reese. “We were ready to get back on the field and get it done so the offense could do their job.” Quarterback Marc Dunn, who came into the game after Rodriguez’s hit on Roberson, led the Wildcat’s fourth quarter rally. Dunn completed 8-of-l 1 passes for 68 yards, all in the fourth quarter. K-State scored touchdowns on its first two possessions of the period, mounting drives of 65 and 73 yards. Down by seven points and with momentum firmly on their side, the Wildcats forced an A&M punt with three minutes remaining. Lockett made up for his earli er fumble, returning the punt 52 yards to the A&M 23-yard line. With 1:06 left in the game, freshman linebacker Randall Webb stopped KSU’s Rock Cartwright on a third-and- three play from the A&M five- yard line, setting up Kiel’s game-saving defensive stand. “It was a great play,” said A&M head coach R.C. Slocum. “I told the team on the sidelines that that’s really what the Wrecking Crew is all about. We had it down to the one play in the ballgame ... and they came up with a really big play. They really did a great job.” Bautovich Co7itinued from Page 7 had stopped Scobey one yard short, and sewn up the victory for the Aggies. “Actually, I didn't know I had stopped him,” Kiel said. “1 thought he got the first down. So I looked over to the sidelines and I saw him shy of it and I broke in.” The Wildcats beat the Aggies at the stats battle as they out- gained the Aggies 358-189 and had five times as many rushing yards with 258 to A&M’s 51. However, with the efforts of players on the Wrecking Crew like Bautovich and Kiel, the Aggies got the Wildcats where it counted — on the scoreboard. SPORTS IN BRIEF OU, Nebraska in good position DALLAS (AP) — Oklahoma and Nebraska are the only undefeated teams in the Big 12, putting them atop the South and North divisions and nearly at the top of the national polls. The two teams will do battle this Saturday. Unless the loser of that game loses again in November, the teams will meet again Dec. 1 in the Big 12 championship game. The winner of that game gets a spot in a BCS bowl; if the same team wins both meetings, it like ly would be headed to the Rose Bowl to play for the national championship. Neither team is buying plane tickets yet, especially not after some uncomfortable moments Saturday. Second-ranked Oklahoma saw a 20-point half time lead cut to 10 before bouncing back to beat Baylor 33-17, while No. 3 Nebraska broke out of a halftime tie to beat Texas Tech 41-31. The Sooners (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) and Cornhuskers (8-0, 4-0) have the luxury of being able to lose Saturday and still win their divisions because one loss would only drop them into a first-place tie, and they have the inside track on the tiebreaker. The Sooners already beat the Longhorns (6-1, 3-1) and play the Aggies (6-1, 3-1) on Nov. 10. Also, Texas and A&M play Nov. 23.
