Forward Emma Smith has
scored three goals despite not
starting any games. Only
Johnson and Thrasher have tal

son. Smith is the fastest player
on the team, breaking a team
record in the 40-yard dash with
a time of 4.55 seconds. Johnson
is the second fastest player on
the team.
Schedule Problems
When last Friday’s game
with Houston was postponed
due to rain, it was the fifth game
that A&M has had to postpone
this season.
A&M's first two games
against Samford and No. 1
North Carolina were canceled
because the Aggie Soccer
Complex was saturated from
week-long rains. The next
week's games were moved to
San Marcos because the field
was still soaked.
After the terrorist attacks in
New York City and Washington,
D.C., A&M’s games with New
Mexico and the Mexican
National Team also were can
celed.
A&M played a game against
Tulane on Sept. 17 to replace the
New Mexico game.
Around the Big 12
A&M is in third place in the
Big 12 with a 2-0-1 conference
record. Nebraska and Texas
are tied for first with 3-0
records.
Nebraska has dominated the
conference in the five years of
existence by winning three reg
ular season titles and four tour
nament titles.
Three Big 12 teams are
ranked in the latest Soccer
Buzz national poll with
Nebraska at No. 6, A&M at No.
10 and Texas at No. 21. Six of
the ten teams in Soccer Buzz’s
central region rankings are
from the Big 12. Nebraska,
A&M and Texas are in the top
three spots while Kansas is at
No. 6, Oklahoma is at No. 8
and Missouri is at No. 9.

The No. 17 Texas A&M
volleyball team looks to con
tinue its mastery on the road as
it travels west to take on the
Texas Tech Red Raiders on
Wednesday in Lubbock at 7
p.m. at the United Spirit Arena.
The Aggies (11-2, 4-1 Big
12) improved to 8-0 in matches
played away and at neutral
sites with a four-game victory
over Texas on Saturday. The
victory was the Aggies’ fourth
consecutive over their rivals
and also moved A&M back
into second place in the Big 12
standings. It was also A&M
volleyball coach Laurie
Corbelli’s 300th victory as a
head coach and 200th at A&M.
The Aggies are one and a
half games behind league
leading Nebraska and a half
game ahead of both Colorado
and Texas.
Senior setter Jenna
Moscovic, who posted her third
triple-double of the season
against Colorado, leads the
Aggies with a .376 hitting per
centage and is ranked national
ly with 12.87 assists per game.
Senior outside hitter Erin
Lechler is the team leader in
kills and points per game with
3.63 and 4.13, respectively.
Freshman middle blocker
Melissa Munsch leads the team
with 0.87 blocks per game, and
junior middle blocker A.D.
Achilefu is the team leader
among starters with 0.49 aces
per game.
The Red Raiders (10-4, 3-2
in Big 12) narrowly defeated
Kansas, 30-28,26-30, 16-30, 30-
21,23-21, in Lawrence, Kan., on
Saturday and then swept non
conference foe New Mexico on
Monday to improve to 8-0 in
matches played at home.
Senior outside hitter
Heather Hughes-Justice led the
Red Raiders with 21 kills, and
junior outside hitter Melissa
MeGehee added 17 kills and a
match-high .464 hitting per
centage as Tech outhit NMU,
.240 to .083.
Tech was playing its first
match without middle blocker
and leading hitter Yolanda
Cumbess, who left the team
Monday for personal reasons.
Cumbess was leading the
team with a .358 hitting per
centage and 168 kills and was
second in kills on the squad
with 3.43 per game.
The Aggies return home
Sunday to take on defending
national champion and Big 12
foe No. 2 Nebraska at 2 p.m.
